Our exciting Kathmandu day tour begins at 8:00 AM, with a pickup from your hotel. Accompanied by an expert local guide, we embark on a journey through some of the most iconic cultural and spiritual landmarks in Kathmandu.    1. Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple) First, we visit the famous Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple, which is located on the hill in the western part of Kathmandu. This ancient Buddhist shrine, believed to be over 2,500 years old, is one of the holiest sites in Nepal. As you ascend the stone steps leading to the temple, you'll be greeted by mischievous monkeys that lend the site its nickname. Admire the breathtaking panoramic view of Kathmandu Valley at the top, which is really striking in the morning if the day is clear. The main stupa is a dome-shaped structure with the all-seeing eyes of Buddha, which symbolize wisdom and compassion. The complex surrounding this stupa contains statues of Lord Buddha, prayer wheels, and a beautiful temple dedicated to Saraswati, the Hindu Goddess of Knowledge, reflecting the harmony between Hindu and Buddhist traditions. 2. Kathmandu Durbar Square Next, we visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, located in the heart of the city. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was once the royal palace complex of the Malla and Shah kings who ruled over the Kathmandu Valley. Wander through the maze of courtyards, intricately carved temples, and historic monuments that speak volumes about Nepal’s medieval history.It contains Kumari Ghar, the house of the Living Goddess, Kumari, and the Taleju Temple, a towering pagoda-style temple that is dedicated to the goddess Taleju Bhawani. Get amazed by the incredible history of the Malla dynasty and appreciate the architecture and artistry that make this square worth visiting.  3. Patan Durbar SquareNext, we head to Patan Durbar Square, which lies in the ancient city of Lalitpur, not very far away. It is called the "City of Fine Arts," and Patan is indeed famous for its marvelous Newar craftsmanship. The square is an artistic masterpiece, with intricately carved temples, palaces, and statues that showcase Nepal's unique architectural style. Next is a visit to the magnificent Krishna Mandir, which was built in the 17th century and is completely made of stone. Take time to explore the local workshops and galleries showcasing handmade metal, wood, and stone crafts. This stop is really for those who love history and art. 4. Bouddhanath Stupa Our tour continues to the magnificent Bouddhanath Stupa, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world. This 36-meter-tall structure is a dominant landmark and spiritual hub for Tibetan Buddhism. The stupa is surrounded by a busy circular market loaded with shops selling traditional Tibetan handicrafts, prayer flags, and Buddhist artifacts.Circumambulate the stupa while spinning prayer wheels and soaking in the peaceful spiritual ambiance.We stop here for lunch, during which time you can have some delicious local or Tibetan cuisine from one of the many rooftop restaurants overlooking the stupa. 5. Pashupatinath Temple Our final stop is the sacred Pashupatinath Temple, the most revered Hindu temple in Nepal, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Situated on the banks of the holy Bagmati River, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a place of immense spiritual significance.  The golden spire of the temple and the intricate wood carvings speak to the architectural genius of the ancient times. Observe the cremation along the ghats, which happens right by the riverbank-a sad yet touching reminder of Hindu belief in life, death, and rebirth. Understand the ancient Shiva Lingam within the main temple, believed to be many thousands of years old. There is also an underground passage from the cave that leads to the waterfall and completes the structure as a natural wonder.Devi's Fall Also known as Patale Chhango, Devi’s Fall is a fascinating waterfall that plunges into an underground tunnel, disappearing beneath the surface. The waterfall is particularly striking during the monsoon season when it’s in full flow. Legend has it that the site got its name from a tragic incident involving a Swiss visitor named Davi who was swept away by the waterfall.
